Softball Closes Out Spring Trip
On the scoreboard, the ACC softball team had a rough end to their spring trip to the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC, losing to Mercer Community College 7-1 and to Louisburg College, 8-0. However, Coach Drew Ornelas considered the trip a success.
"We were just not hitting today," Ornelas said. "The good news is the team is fighting all the way to the end and we battled with the #1 team in the country (Louisburg). They are just another level. Taylor (Krentz) threw well but they exploded late."
Against Mercer, the Jacks took a 1-0 lead in the second as Makayla Kamyszek walked, moved all the way to 3rd on a Kenna Tippman sacrifice bunt and scored on an Abigail Platt RBI single.
But Mercer scored three in the third, two in the fourth and two in the fifth to pull away.
Rhea Amrich and Shaelyn Lampinen had the other hits for ACC. Kamyszek took the loss, striking out four in six innings.
Louisburg scored in every inning en route to the five inning win. The Lumberjacks managed only three hits again - by Elizabeth Romel, Tippman and Platt.
ACC (1-6) will open conference play next Thursday at Mid-Michigan College.
